Image Weight Check

On most small business sites the speed problem is one photograph straight off a phone. Drop images in and see what they weigh against what they need to weigh. They are read and resized by your own browser and never uploaded.

They stay on your computer. Nothing is uploaded, and you can watch your own network panel while you do it.

How wide does it actually display?

The width on screen, not the width of the file. This is where almost all of the waste is.

What is actually slow

On most small business sites the performance problem is not the theme, the host or the plugins. It is one photograph straight off a phone, four thousand pixels wide and three megabytes, displayed in a box eight hundred pixels across.

The browser downloads every byte of that file and then throws most of it away. On a phone, on a normal connection, that is the difference between a page that is usable in two seconds and one that is usable in nine.

The rule is unglamorous. Export at twice the width it displays at, no more, and use a modern format. Twice, because of high density screens. No more than twice, because nobody can see the difference and everybody pays for it.

What you dropped

Nothing here leaves your browser

There is no server behind this page. What you type is held in the tab you are looking at, it is not sent anywhere, it is not stored, and closing the tab discards it. You can confirm that yourself: open your browser's network panel and use the tool. Nothing goes out.

And no email address

A tool that holds its answer back until you identify yourself is not a tool, it is a form with a costume on. If this is useful, use it. If you later want someone to do the work, you know where to find me.
